Sui Dynasty

Sui Dynasty

From 581 to 619 AD, the Sui Dynasty was a unified dynasty in Chinese history that bridged the Northern and Southern Dynasties and the Tang Dynasty, and it was also a unified dynasty re-established by the Han people after the Five Barbarians' chaos. Yang Zhong, the father of Emperor Wen of Sui, was once granted the title of "Duke of Sui" by the Northern Zhou. Yang Jian inherited the title and, after ascending the throne, named his dynasty "Sui," but he felt the character "Sui" implied movement or departure, fearing it was inauspicious, so he changed it to "Sui."
