Step 1: First, place the knife tip against the cutting board, keeping the blade at a roughly 45° angle to the board, and maintain this angle throughout (Figure 1).
Step 2: Vertically slice the cucumber, cutting to about 3/5 of its depth (Image 2), and continue slicing all the way to the end (Image 3).
Step 3: Then flip the cucumber over and slice diagonally, also cutting about 3/5 of the way through (Image 4), so the cuts from both sides intersect—this completes the decorative crisscross slicing.
