Medicinal Properties

This product is a stalactitic aggregate, somewhat conical or cylindrical in shape. The surface is white, grayish-white, or brownish-yellow. It is rough and uneven. Heavy in weight, hard in texture, the cross-section is relatively flat, white to light grayish-white, exhibiting sparkling star-like luster when observed against light. There is often a circular hole near the center, with numerous light orange-yellow concentric rings surrounding the hole. Odor: faint; Taste: slightly salty.

Precautions and Contraindications

It should not be taken for prolonged periods; those with Yin deficiency causing Fire hyperactivity or Lung Heat with cough should avoid use.

Prescriptions

1. For Lung Qi deficiency with chronic cough, withered skin and hair, sputum with blood or foul odor, or incessant wheezing: processed stalactite powder (calcined and thoroughly prepared), honey-fried mulberry root bark (Sangbaipi), Ophiopogon japonicus root (Maidong, core removed), and perilla leaf (Zisu), 1.5 g each. Add three slices of ginger and one jujube. Decoct in one cup of water until six-tenths remains, take after meals. (From *Waike Lili*, Zhongrufen San). 2. For persistent cold cough: stalactite powder, ginseng (Renshen), and donkey-hide gelatin (Ejiao, stir-fried). Grind the three ingredients into equal parts powder. Take with glutinous rice decoction. (From *Ye Shi Lu Yan Fang*, Zhongru San). 3. For blocked lactation: stalactite (Zhongrushi) 9 g, cowherb seed (Wangbuliuxing) and trichosanthes root (Tianhuafen) 12 g each, rhaponticum root (Loulu) and astragalus root (Huangqi) 15 g each. Decoct in water and take orally. (From *Qingdao Zhongcaoyao Shouce*). 4. For persistent cold diarrhea of the large intestine: stalactite powder 30 g, nutmeg (Roudoukou, roasted) 15 g. Grind into powder, form into pills the size of sterculia seeds using cooked jujube pulp. Take seventy pills on an empty stomach with rice decoction. (From *Jisheng Fang*). 5. For ulcer disease with hyperacidity: grind stalactite into fine powder, take 1.8 g each time, three times daily, taken with warm water before meals. (From *Quanguo Zhongcaoyao Huibian*).
