期月有成 (Results in a Month)

Confucius, the founder of Confucianism, was a great scholar with strong political ambitions. Beyond philosophy, he developed a complete system of thought centered on "benevolence," believing that governing by his principles would yield excellent results. He once declared, "If a ruler were to employ me to govern the realm, in one year things would be well in hand, and in three years, there would be great success."

In fact, Confucius's doctrine of "benevolence" was impractical, so he remained unfulfilled throughout his life, had to take on disciples and teach, and never realized his political ambitions—yet this made him a great educator.

"Qiyue" is generally interpreted as a full month. However, governing a state and seeing results in just one month seems too exaggerated, so we adopt Mr. Yang Bojun's annotation in his *Analects Translation and Commentary*: "Qiyue means one year."

The idiom "Expect Results in a Month" describes achieving quick success in a short period.

Meaning of the Idiom: Later, the Chinese idiom "期月有成" came to describe achieving quick success in a short period.
