Meng Gongchuo, a senior official (high official) of the State of Lu during the Spring and Autumn Period and a member of the Mengsun clan, was pure, quiet, free from desires, upright, and incorruptible, earning the respect of Confucius. Confucius said, "Meng Gongchuo would excel as a steward of the Zhao or Wei families, but he cannot serve as an official of the states of Teng or Xue."
