Harvesting and Processing
Harvest the stems and leaves in summer and autumn, place them in a vat, add clean water and soak for 2-3 days until the leaves rot and the stems shed their bark. Remove the stems, add lime (8-10 kg of lime per 100 kg of material), and stir thoroughly until the soaking liquid changes from dark green to purplish red. Skim off the foam from the surface and dry in the sun.

Pharmacology
Has antitumor and antibacterial effects; offers a certain protective effect against liver damage.

Functions and Indications
Clears Heat and resolves toxicity, cools Blood and eliminates macules, drains Fire and settles fright. Used for Warm Toxin macules, Blood Heat vomiting and epistaxis, chest pain and hemoptysis, mouth sores, mumps, throat obstruction, and infantile convulsions.
Dosage and Administration
Oral: grind into powder, 1.5-6 g; or used in pills or powders. External: appropriate amount, apply dry or mix with a medium for topical application.
Precautions and Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with Spleen and Stomach deficiency cold.
Prescriptions
1. For hemoptysis: Qingdai, Gualouren, Hezi, Haifen, Shanzhi. Grind the above ingredients into powder, mix with honey and ginger juice to form pills, and dissolve in the mouth. (Danxi Xinfa) 2. For coagulated old phlegm in the diaphragm: Qingdai, regardless of amount. Grind into fine powder, take 1.5 g per dose (or 3 g for severe cases), dissolve in cold water and swallow. (Zhongmiao Xianfang, Qingdai San) 3. For epigastric pain due to long-term depression transforming into Heat: Qingdai, mix with ginger juice and take orally. (Yixue Zhengzhuan) 4. For oral ulcers: a. Qingdai (washed clean) 15 g, Pengsha 1.5 g, Bingpian a small amount. Grind into powder and apply dry to the affected area. (Yangke Xuancui, Qingdai San) b. Huangbai 120 g, Gancao (honey-fried) 60 g, Qingdai 30 g. First grind the first two ingredients into powder, then mix with Qingdai and apply dry. (Guoyao Zongzhi, Lüpo San) 5. For herpes zoster: Qingdai powder 30 g, fresh Machixian 60 g (mashed into paste). Mix well and apply to the affected area. [Henan Zhongyi Xueyuan Xuebao, 1980, (3): 49] 6. For facial sores with yellow fluid: Qingdai 9 g, Songxiang 9 g, Liuhuang 3 g. Grind into powder, mix with sesame oil and apply; if the sore is wet, apply dry powder. (Zhongmiao Xianfang, Sanjin San)
