Distribution
Line-striped seahorses are mainly produced in coastal areas such as Guangdong, Fujian, and Taiwan. Three-spot seahorses are mainly produced in coastal areas such as Fujian and Guangdong. Spiny seahorses are mainly produced in coastal areas such as Guangdong, Fujian, and Zhejiang. Big-bellied seahorses are mainly produced in coastal areas such as Guangdong and Hainan. Little seahorses are mainly produced in coastal areas such as Liaoning, Hebei, Shandong, and Zhejiang.
Harvesting and Processing
Caught in summer and autumn, washed clean, and dried in the sun; or remove the skin, shell, and internal organs, then dried in the sun.
Chemical Constituents
Contains taurine and multiple amino acids and inorganic elements.
Pharmacology
Has sex hormone-like effects, delays aging, and prevents thrombosis.
Properties and Channel Entry
Sweet, salty, warm. Enters the Liver and Kidney channels.
Functions and Indications
Warms the Kidneys and strengthens Yang, disperses masses and reduces swelling
Dosage and Administration
Oral: decoct in water, 3-9 g; grind into powder, 1-1.5 g. External use: appropriate amount, grind into powder for sprinkling or mixing for application.
Precautions and Contraindications
Contraindicated in pregnant women and those with Yin deficiency and Yang hyperactivity.
Prescriptions
1. For male impotence and female uterine cold with infertility: Hai Ma (seahorse) 1 pair, dry-fry and grind into fine powder, take 1 g each time, 3 times daily, with warm wine. For kidney yang deficiency with frequent nocturnal urination or excessive vaginal discharge due to body weakness in women: Hai Ma (seahorse) 12 g, Gou Qi Zi (Lycium barbarum) 12 g, Yu Biao Jiao (swim bladder gelatin, dissolved) 12 g, Hong Zao (jujube) 30 g.
