A processed product of Banxia (Pinellia ternata).
Processing
Take the processed Banxia (Pinellia ternata), separate by size, and soak in an 8% alum solution until the interior is no longer dry and a slight tingling sensation is felt on the tongue. Remove, wash thoroughly, cut into thick slices, and dry. For every 100 kg of processed Banxia, use 20 kg of alum.
Medicinal Properties
This product appears in elliptical, nearly round, or irregular slices. The cut surface is light gray to grayish-white, with grayish-white punctate or short linear vascular bundle marks visible; some areas show light purplish-red spots beneath the remaining cork. The texture is brittle and easily broken, with the fractured surface appearing slightly horny. The odor is faint, and the taste is slightly astringent with a mild numbing sensation on the tongue.
Properties and Channel Entry
Acrid, warm. Enters the Spleen, Stomach, and Lung channels.
Functions and Indications
Dries Dampness and transforms Phlegm. Used for cough due to Damp-Phlegm, epigastric fullness and distention, condensation and accumulation of phlegm-saliva, and inability to expectorate.
Dosage and Administration
3-9 g.
Precautions and Contraindications
It is not suitable to use in combination with Chuanwu, processed Chuanwu, Caowu, processed Caowu, and Fuzi.
