Processed product of *Croton tiglium* L.

Processing

Take the seed kernels of Croton tiglium, process into frost following the frost-making method (see the entry for "Semen Euphorbiae Pulveratum"), or grind the kernels into a fine powder. Then, according to the method under "Assay," determine the fatty oil content, add an appropriate amount of starch to bring the fatty oil content within the specified range, mix thoroughly, and obtain the final product.

Content Determination

Fat oil: Take approximately 5 g of this product, accurately weigh it, place in a Soxhlet extractor, add 100 ml of ethyl ether, heat under reflux for extraction (6-8 hours) until the fat oil is completely extracted, collect the extract, and place in an evaporating dish that has been dried to constant weight. Evaporate to dryness on a water bath at low temperature, dry at 100°C for 1 hour, transfer to a desiccator, cool for 30 minutes, accurately weigh, calculate, and obtain the result. This product should contain 18%-20% fat oil.

Medicinal Properties

This product is a loose, uniformly granular, oily, light yellow powder.

Properties and Channel Entry

Acrid, hot; highly toxic. Enters the Stomach and Large Intestine channels.

Functions and Indications

Strongly purges cold accumulations, expels water to reduce edema, clears phlegm and benefits the throat; for external use, it erodes sores. Used for constipation due to cold accumulation, stagnation of milk or food, ascites and abdominal distension, obstruction of urine and bowels, acute laryngeal infection, throat obstruction; externally treats welling-abscesses with pus that do not rupture, scabies, tinea, malignant sores, warts, and nevi.

Dosage and Administration

Internal use: 0.1-0.3 g, mostly used in pills or powders. For external use: apply an appropriate amount.

Precautions and Contraindications

Contraindicated in pregnant women; should not be used in combination with Pharbitidis Semen (Qianniusi).
