Processing
Take Jingjie (Schizonepeta) segments, process using the charcoal-frying method (see under "Daji Charcoal" entry) until the surface turns charred black and the interior becomes scorched yellow, then spray with a small amount of clean water to extinguish any sparks, remove, and allow to air dry.
Medicinal Properties
This product appears as irregular segments, 5 mm in length. The entire body is blackish-brown. The stem is quadrangular, light in weight, and brittle in texture. The cut surface is charred brown. Leaves are opposite, mostly shed. The corolla is mostly shed, with the persistent calyx bell-shaped. It has a slight charred aroma, and a taste that is bitter and pungent.
Properties and Channel Entry
Acrid, astringent, slightly warm. Enters the Lung and Liver channels.
Functions and Indications
Converges and stops bleeding. Used for hematochezia, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, and postpartum dizziness due to blood loss.

5-10 g.
