Botanical Description
Perennial fleshy herb, 20-80 cm tall, glabrous (hairless) throughout. Rhizome short and thick, nearly woody. Stem erect, cylindrical, stout, unbranched, sometimes 1-3 stems arise from the base, base often purple. Leaves alternate or nearly opposite; leaf blade 3.5-8 cm long, 1.2-2 cm wide, apex obtuse or slightly acute, base cuneate, nearly sessile, margin with irregular serrations. Cyme terminal, flower branches spreading, many-flowered, with bract leaves beneath flowers; sepals 5, linear to lanceolate, unequal in length, about half the length of petals; petals 5, yellow, oblong to elliptic-lanceolate, 6-10 mm long, apex mucronate; stamens 10, in 2 whorls, all shorter than petals; scales 5, square or semicircular; carpels 5, slightly spreading, ovate-oblong, 6-7 mm long, apex abruptly narrowed into a style, base slightly connate, ventral surface convex. Follicle, yellow or reddish-brown, arranged in a stellate pattern. Seeds numerous, brown, smooth, elliptic, margin with narrow wings. Flowering period June-July, fruiting period August-September.
Habitat and Distribution
Grows on warm, sun-exposed rocky slopes or grasslands. Distributed in Heilongjiang, Jilin, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Gansu, Qinghai, Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hubei, Sichuan and other regions.
Harvesting and Processing
Harvest the root in spring and autumn, wash clean and sun-dry. Harvest the whole plant as needed, or harvest in autumn and sun-dry after collection.
Chemical Constituents
This product contains alkaloids, oleanolic acid, sitosterol, sedoheptulose, sucrose, fructose, tannins, starch, arbutin, and protein.
Pharmacology
Can shorten blood clotting time, has sedative and blood pressure-lowering effects, and can reduce the toxicity of amphetamine and dilate the coronary arteries.
Properties and Channel Entry
Sweet, slightly sour, neutral. Enters the Heart and Liver channels.
Functions and Indications
Disperses stasis, stops bleeding, calms the Heart and settles the Spirit, and resolves toxicity. Indications include: hemoptysis, epistaxis, coughing up blood, blood in the stool, hematuria, metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, purpura, traumatic bleeding, falls and contusions, palpitations, insomnia, furuncles, carbuncles, and abscesses, scalds and burns, and bites from venomous insects.
Dosage and Administration
Oral administration: decoct in water, 15-30 g; or squeeze fresh juice, 30-60 g. External application: apply appropriate amount of fresh mashed product; or grind into powder and sprinkle.
Precautions and Contraindications
Contraindicated in patients with Spleen and Stomach deficiency cold.

1. For hematemesis, hemoptysis, epistaxis, gingival bleeding, and internal injury bleeding: fresh *Sedum aizoon* 60-90 g. Fresh *Sedum aizoon* herb mashed for external application. b. *Sedum aizoon* 9 g, *Rumex obtusifolius* 9 g, *Veronica undulata* 9 g. Decoction with brown sugar for oral administration.
