Learn how to make hearty beef soup with tender, fall-apart meat and rich broth. Follow this easy recipe with traditional seasonings for a comforting meal.

Ingredients

1000 g (about 2.2 lbs) beef, chopped cilantro to taste.

Seasonings

25 g each of scallion sections and ginger pieces, appropriate amounts of salt, MSG, sesame oil, and Shaoxing wine, and 5 g each of Sichuan peppercorns and star anise, combined to make a seasoning bag.

Instructions

1. Wash the beef and cut it into cubes. Bring a pot of water to a boil, add the whole beef pieces, and once boiling, skim off any foam. Add Sichuan peppercorns, a spice bag with star anise, scallions, ginger, and Shaoxing wine. Cover the pot and simmer over low heat with salt for 1 hour.

2. After one hour, add the remaining seasonings and continue to simmer for 2.5 hours until the meat is tender and falls apart. Remove the scallions, ginger, Sichuan peppercorns, and star anise bag. Stir in MSG and sesame oil, then transfer to a serving bowl and sprinkle with chopped cilantro.
